Performing a Normal (Soft) Reset on a Treo 680
A normal reset is sometimes referred to as a soft reset. A normal reset stops all running applications but does not erase any programs or saved data.
Caution be sure to save any unsaved data before performing a normal reset since a normal reset erases all unsaved data.
To perform a soft reset:
- Remove the battery from your device, and then reinsert it.
NOTE The reset begins when you reinsert the battery.
- At the end of the soft reset, Date & Time Preferences appears. Select Done.
Performing a Hard Reset on a Treo 680
A full reset is sometimes referred to as a hard reset. Perform a full reset when you want to clear all settings, programs and data from RAM.
Caution if you perform a full reset, your Palm Treo 680 returns to its default settings and looses all information that is not recorded in ROM.
To perform a system reset:
- Remove the battery from your device.
- Press and hold Up
until the black status bar at the bottom of the screen fills and disappears, and then release Up
.
- Delete the third-party application that you suspect is causing the problem.
- Perform a soft reset. (The wireless features of your device are not available until you complete this step.)
To perform a hard reset:
- Remove the battery from your device.
- Press and hold Power/End
while reinserting the battery.
- When the Access Powered logo appears, release Power/End
- When the “Erase all data?” prompt appears, press Up
to confirm the hard reset.
- If a “Reformatting in progress” message appears, do not touch your device until the process is complete. This may take up to ten minutes.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to align the screen and set the date and time.
- (Optional) If you want to confirm that the hard reset was successful, press Applications
and select HotSync
(If you see your device name in the upper-right corner, the hard reset was not successful. If you do not see your device name, then the reset was successful.)
- Sync to restore any previously synchronized information.
