Performing a Hard Reset on a BlackBerry PlayBook Series

A full reset is sometimes referred to as a hard reset. Perform a full reset when you want to clear all settings, programs and data from RAM.

Caution if you perform a full reset, your BlackBerry PlayBook returns to its default settings and looses all information that is not recorded in ROM.

This procedure stops all services and removes all data including passwords and encryption keys, from the BlackBerry® device. Before you clear your device, verify that a backup copy of your data is available.

There is more than just one task in the complete hard reset procedure. First you reset the PlayBook, then wipe the data.

To perform a hard reset:

  1. Hold the power button for about 10 seconds.

To wipe the data from your PlayBook (back up all your data first before wiping):

  1. Swipe down from the top frame, tap security > device wipe, complete the field, tap wipe data. Note: If you wipe data from your PlayBook, the ID connection is broken, this connection will need to re-established.

Next step is to backup you data. To backup your data:

  1. Select Device > Backup from the desktop software, then select one of the following.
  • Select Full to back up all your data.
  • Select Quick to backup all data except media.
  • Select Custom to choose which types of data you want to back up using the check boxes.

Now the backup file can be given a new name and be encrypted. To do this:

  • In the field name field, type you new filename.
  • Select the encrypt backup file checkbox to encrypt your backup file. You will be prompted to type a password.
  • Select Back Up

Now your PlayBook needs to be restored. to restore:

  1. Click device > restore on the desktop software.
  2. Once you have chosen restore repeat the backup procedure.
